Thought I'd throw this out for discussion. I'm always curious what tires people run and why, whether it is riding style, price, or whatnot. I've almost always run Dunlop original equipment tires on my bikes (currently 2000 FLHT), but just got done getting Michelin Commanders mounted front and rear. Seeing as how we just got about 12" of snow it's going to be awhile before I get to try them out :)

I used to always get somewhere between 8500-9000 miles on a rear, and double that on front tires. Since my engine work made it so much more fun to blast around on, I ran my last rear 7,200 miles and it was junk. No burnouts or anything like that, just good hard riding.

A buddy of mine put the Michelins on his RoadGlide and says they are the best handling tires he's ever had, so I thought I'd try em out. Don't know if anybody here has run them or not, but when I get to ride I'll let 'ya know what I think. And I'll know by mid-summer how they hold up as far as mileage goes.

I've been running Avon Venoms and so far I have liked them better than the others I've tried. They don't wear as long a Marathon but I think they are a little softer compound which I like, especially in the rain. I have run in frog stranglers at 75-80 mph on the slab with no problems. I got about 8,500 miles out of the last rear and about 17,000 out of the front. I tend to be hard on tires, I'm kind of heavy handed with the throttle and front brake.

I have been thinking about trying a set of the Commanders next round, let us know how they do.

Right now I have an Avon Venom 180x18 Radial on the rear & Speedmaster 300x21 on the front. That Avon Radial is the best tire
I have ever used. Coming back from the smoke out west I was riding
west from jerome through miles of rain soaked mountain twisties
(downhill mostly) Haulin ass & that tire was married to the road.
better than the AM23 & last longer as well. only drawback is price, It
isnt cheap.

Right now I have a set of tires that say Harley Davidson on them. 21 front 16 rear. They have been nice in the rain. Track straight but don't stop worth a shit. Compond is to hard for my taste. 6,500 on them I think and they are gettin thin. Thanks for the input I was holdin of till spring time if I can make it. I am heavy on the brakes and run the shit outta stuff. They do stop well in warmer temps. and I would give them an 8 outta 10. Dunlops I'm sure....

I put Metzlers on my rigid Shovel just for the look. I loved them so much that when my 2000 FLHT need tires I went with them and will never have Dunlops again!

I was always in the right hand lane doing 70 mph, on the I, and letting everyone blast past me. The very first time I rode the Metzlers on the I, I was blasting past everyone!

They don't grab the grooves and they just feel smoother. The Dunlops always seemed to have to be broken in, they felt slippery and unsure till they broke in. I hated that!
