Just changed the oil on my Evolution for the 1st time. What a fucked up location for the oil filter! I'm sure I can do it w/o the mess , but I think I'm gonna take a serious look at moving the filter.

Twincams are no better. The filter is on the front of the engine above the voltage regulator. There is no quick way that I've found to get that dog unscrewed without oil draining into the pocket behind the voltage regulator and drooling down the front of the engine. I've tried a couple of aftermarket specialized oil "catchers" but if you have an oil cooler adapter with the hoses, on the bike, they don't work. My solution was to get a big tin oil pan for the garage floor (you're wife's cookie sheet will work too, but she may complain about the taste of 20w 50 in her oatmeal cookies). I just slide the sheet under the bike and it catches most of the drool. Then a bath for the bike right afterwards with engine cleaner.

I use a funnel made from a 1/2 gallon plastic jug, leaving the spout attached. Then I take a punch and knock a hole in the bottom of the filter and one opposite, so air can go in as the oil comes out. It is long enough the oil drips into the pan. I remove the filter after the oil quits running out.
I also used a cookie sheet before trying this method. No cookie sheet needed any longer, but I don't have a oil cooler either.

Mike Damn good idea, Mike. I usually just make a fucking mess in the garage changing the oil on my RK and then listen to my wife bitch about the mess.

Scored a beautiful beehive oil filter case uses the old shovelhead cartridge filter, can this be used on an EVO? Thanks, Ted
